Ed Jones and Andy Hague Quintet

June 30, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

From £10

For our season finale, the Be-Bop Club welcomes one of the UK’s finest saxophone players, Ed Jones. The club will then be taking a break over the summer and will be back in September.

Over the last 20 years or so award-winning saxophonist Ed Jones has established himself as one of the most innovative and sought after sax players on the scene. His muscular and highly accomplished bop influenced tenor playing has been featured in a wide variety of contexts, most notably with the jazz crossover groups “Us3” and “Incognito”. But his jazz credentials are just as solid, with work alongside artists such as George Benson, Dianne Reeves, Horace Silver and Claire Martin. Ed used to co-lead the band Killer Shrimp with trumpeter Damon Brown which in 2007 won the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Live Group. Ed’s most recent quartet CD For Your Ears Only was released in 2018.

“A formidable saxophonist… he’s an improviser to his fingertips, a player of forceful imagination, and one of the UK’s most distinctive saxophonists.” John Fordham, The Guardian.

Ed Jones and Bristol trumpeter Andy Hague have been tutoring alongside each other at jazz summer schools for around fifteen years, originally at Music For You and later at Falmouth-Yamaha and Rapport Falmouth.

Pianist Jim Blomfield is one of the pillars of the Bristol jazz scene but is also becoming recognised as one of the UK’s best salsa pianists.

Although now based in Bristol, bassist Riaan Vosloo is a regular member of Ed Jones’ London quartet alongside Ross Stanley and Tim Giles and performs on the For Your Ears Only CD.

Drummer Alex Goodyear is one of the finest young drummers to emerge for many years and is based in Cardiff having graduated from the Royal Welsh College a few years back.
