Jazz: Neil Burns Organ Trio plus Terry Quinney

November 24, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

From £12

Neil Burns – guitar, Terry Quinney – tenor sax, Martin Jenkins – organ, Ric Byer – drums

Originally from Glasgow, Devon-based Neil Burns is one of the finest guitarists to emerge in the West Country in recent years and is now in great demand as an accompanist for many visiting musicians from the UK and the USA. His funky, hard-grooving organ trio has been a favourite at jazz festivals and clubs across the region and beyond for almost 10 years performing their groove-heavy, hard-swinging selection of Blue Note classics and originals, with some great boogaloo & funk thrown in.

More recently the trio have been teaming up with saxophonist Terry Quinney to form a quartet. Since arriving in the UK from Canada in 2009, saxophonist and composer Terry Quinney has quickly established himself on the British jazz scene. Terry has performed at the renowned Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, the Royal Albert Hall, National Theatre in London and numerous other jazz clubs in the UK and is well known to our Be-Bop Club audience as co-leader of Sound of BlueNote.

Martin Jenkins is an excellent pianist and organist who used to live in Bristol but moved down to Tavistock a few years ago. Bristol audiences will remember the fine band Freight which Martin used to run alongside saxophonist Craig Crofton.

It’s first time at the club for drummer Rick Byer who is one of the busiest players in Devon and along the south coast.

Here’s the band in action Green With Envy [Grant Green]
