Music: Andy Hague/Dan Newberry Organ Quartet

May 16 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

From £12

Dan Newberry and Andy Hague have played together at the club previously in a quintet with piano and bass, but for tonight’s performance have invited Tom Berge to play Hammond organ in a set focusing on the groovier end of Blue Note-style jazz.

Saxophonist Dan Newberry is currently studying for a Masters at the Royal Welsh College and is one of the brightest rising stars of the scene. He studied with sax great Iain Ballamy from an early age, and has acquired an appreciation of all styles of jazz sax, able to switch from 30s swing to the most contemporary sounds in an instant.

Trumpeter Andy Hague has been a fixture on the Bristol scene for many years and is well known both for his jazz education activities and for running the club alongside a varied performance schedule.

Tom Berge is a jazz pianist and music teacher with a 1st Class Honours (BA) in Jazz Piano (Leeds College of Music) and an MA in Composition for Film and TV (Bristol University). He plays regularly with his own trio across the UK and has tutored at the Yamaha Jazz School in Falmouth and at the Dordogne Jazz Summer School.

Drummer Andy Tween is one of Bristol’s busiest musicians who has in the past toured with Pee Wee Ellis and Seth Lakeman, and more recently with rock band Curved Air. He teaches at Wells Cathedral School and is also a composer who has had his work used by the BBC and the Discovery Channel
