SUMMARY:Talk: Sylvia Plath\, Witchcraft & Radical Poetry
DESCRIPTION:Explore the politics of the witch trials and powerful witch imagery in Sylvia Plath’s poetry. Followed by Q&A. \n\n\n\n\nSylvia Plath is best known for her novel The Bell Jar (1963) and her emotive\, striking poetry. She grew up in Massachusetts\, close to Salem\, a place closely linked to the history of the witch trials. During the 1950s\, renewed public interest in these events influenced Plath’s writing and imagination. Plath often used images of witches and witch trials to explore power\, identity and injustice. Her poetry reflects her concerns about control and authority in society\, while also showing sympathy for those unfairly accused. \nIn this talk\, Dr Dorka Tamás explores how Plath connects with witchcraft and poetic language\, and how the figure of the witch appears in different forms in her work. We’ll look at the contrast between fictional “evil” witches from fairy tales and the real historical victims who were accused of witchcraft\, and punished by patriarchal systems of power. \nDoors open at 7pm\, talk starts at 7:30pm – come down early to grab a good seat! \nFollow us on IG @seedtalks \nSpeaker Bio: \nDr Dorka Tamás is a researcher and teacher based at Royal Holloway\, University of London. She earned her PhD in English literature from the University of Exeter (2022) and herMaster’s degree from the University of Sussex (2018). Dorka is specialised in twentieth-century women’s poetry\, particularly Sylvia Plath\, the legacies of early modern witch-hunt inliterature\, and post-1945 American culture. She has spoken at the Sylvia Plath Literary Festival at Hebden Bridge (2022)\, at numerous academic conferences\, and at the Romancing the Gothic lecture series. She is the author of Sylvia Plath and the Supernatural\, published by Cambridge University Press (2026) and the editor of The New Sylvia Plath Studies\, forthcoming from Cambridge University Press. \nThis talk is 16+

SUMMARY:Talks: AuDHD & Women: Exploring gender bias in neurodivergence
DESCRIPTION:Discover how AuDHD uniquely presents in women in this insightful and neuroaffirming talk. Followed by Q&A. \n\n\n\n\nFor many years\, Autism and ADHD could not be diagnosed together\, with one diagnosis excluding the other. We now know that the two are deeply connected\, with up to 60% of Autistic people also experiencing ADHD. Yet despite growing awareness\, many women continue to be overlooked\, misunderstood\, or misdiagnosed due to outdated assumptions and gender bias. \nThis talk explores the complex reality of AuDHD – not simply having both Autism and ADHD\, but navigating the constant internal “tug of war” between two often conflicting neurotypes. Drawing on current research and lived experience\, we’ll explore topics including masking\, burnout and Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. \nTaking a neuroaffirming approach throughout\, this talk offers practical insights and supportive strategies to help women better understand themselves\, recognise their strengths\, and advocate for the support they deserve. \nDoors open at 7pm\, talk starts at 7:30pm – come down early to grab a good seat! \nFollow us on IG @seedtalks \nSpeaker Bio: \nDr Emilie Moorhead (DClinPsych\, CPsychol\, BSc) is a Clinical Psychologist with nearly two decades of clinical experience working with Neurodivergent people. She is a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Dr Moorhead runs her own successful Psychology practice\, This Is Me Psychology\, which specialises in supporting Neurodivergent people to gain the best possible understanding of themselves. She adopts a neuro-affirming approach\, helping Neurodivergent people to recognise the strengths and values that they have to enable them to embrace their full potential. She strongly believes that everybody should be able to access Neurodivergent support in a proactive and preventative manner\, without needing to reach crisis point first. \nDr Moorhead has also worked in a range of NHS and private mental health services\, including Clinical Lead at two specialist Neurodiversity Services. She works with individuals across the lifespan. She is a guest lecturer on a number of University courses\, specialising in Neurodivergent conditions and post-diagnostic support.

SUMMARY:Talk: The Science of Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Join us while we take a closer look at what happens to the brain while we sleep and the meaning behind our dreams. Followed by Q+A. \n\n\n\n\nHumans have studied and interpreted dreams for many centuries. Have you ever woken up after a crazy dream convinced it means something? Or spent hours wondering why your mind comes up with such ludicrous fantasies? \nIn this engaging talk from NHS psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr Jonathan Iliff\, you will learn what science has to say on the matter! Jonathan will explain the current theories on how and why we dream\, what goes on in our brain during sleep and how you can enhance your dreams! \nDoors open at 7pm\, talk starts at 7.30pm – come down early to grab a good seat! \nFollow us on IG @seedtalks \nDr Jonathan Iliff is a psychiatrist and medical doctor in the NHS\, with a background in neuroscience and psychedelic drug research. Jonathan has been an associate researcher with the psychedelic research group attached to King’s College\, was the founder and chair of the UCL Society for the Application of Psychedelics and has worked with prominent figures in the field. SUMMARY:Talk: The Psychology of Possession & Exorcism
DESCRIPTION:Explore the science behind possession\, exorcism\, and why our brains conjure the paranormal. Followed by Q&A. \n\n\n\nMillions of people around the world – including in the UK today – believe that spirits or demons can take over a living person’s body. But neuroscience tells a very different story. So if a demonic possession isn’t real\, what’s actually going on? \nIt turns out that there’s no single answer. Some historical demonic “possessions” were likely undiagnosed conditions like epilepsy or Tourette’s. Others look remarkably like phenomena we recognise today – dissociative identity disorder\, hypnosis\, speaking in tongues. Then there are the darker cases: possession used as a label against vulnerable people\, with devastating results. This talk unpacks the science\, the psychology\, and the genuinely strange space where belief and the brain collide. \nDoors open at 7pm\, talk starts at 7:30pm – come down early to grab a good seat! \nSpeaker Bio: \nChris French is Emeritus Professor of Psychology at Goldsmiths\, University of London\, where he founded the Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit — dedicated to understanding why humans have paranormal experiences\, and what’s really behind them. He’s a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry\, and a Patron of Humanists UK. He’s published more than 200 articles and book chapters\, and is a regular contributor to the Guardian and Skeptic magazine. \nHe frequently appears on radio (Curious Cases\, All in the Mind\, Uncanny\, Today\, PM) and television (Newsnight\, BBC Breakfast\, The Big Questions) casting a sceptical eye over paranormal claims. He has also given talks on a wide range of such topics both nationally (the Royal Institution\, New Scientist Live) and internationally (Europe\, Australia\, Taiwan\, USA). His most recent book is The science of weird shit: Why our minds conjure the paranormal\, published by MIT Press in 2024. \n\n  \nLearn more about Seed Talks events here: Seed Talks | Fascinating lectures in relaxed spaces \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n25% off your food bill when you reserve a table in our  bar /restaurant\nWhen you book a table and enjoy dinner in our restaurant\, we reserve great seats for you\, ready for the performance\, so you can skip the queue and relax while enjoying your meal. \n\nPlease make your dinner reservation under the same name you used to book your tickets. \n\n*Does not include a ticket to your chosen event.
